Reclaiming the Main Gate: April 2026 at the Japanese Garden of Peace
Fourteen Friends at the Japanese Garden of Peace tackled the long-neglected strip beside the main gate on 26 April, alongside sakura tree care, stream weeding and bamboo work under sunshine.


Sakura, Students, and Fourteen Bags: March 2026 at the Japanese Garden of Peace
The 2026 season opened at the Japanese Garden of Peace in Hammersmith Park with thirteen Friends, a group of visiting Japanese students, carex clearance along the streams and ponds, bamboo thinning, and the start of a long restoration of the main gate — all under sakura at its peak, with fourteen ton bags of green waste for collection.


August 2025 Gardening Day – Record Eighteen Volunteers & Major Garden Progress
August 2025 saw a record-breaking 18 volunteers at the Japanese Garden of Peace in Hammersmith Park. Teams tackled major bamboo clearance, carex removal, pond restoration, and pathway maintenance. The day generated 16 ton bags of green waste while preserving this historic 115-year-old Japanese garden. Volunteers included a visitor from Philadelphia, showcasing international appreciation for London's oldest publicly-owned Japanese garden.


July 2025 Gardening Volunteering Day
Volunteers returned to the Japanese Garden of Peace in Hammersmith Park this July to clear pondside carex, tackle a major blanketweed blockage near the bridge, and prune back streamside plants to improve flow and reveal stonework. With careful shaping of the bamboo grove and summer maintenance throughout the beds, the garden is looking fresher and more balanced. A huge thank you to all who joined!


May 2025 Gardening Day: Acer Rescue, Bamboo Battles & Carex
